Shirt: Forever 21 Skirt: Forever 21 Bag: 3.1 Phillip Lim x Target Shoes: Lulu’s
I know I have complained about the falling temperatures but, by the same token, I have been preparing for them. I have stashed away my whites, bikinis, and sandals to make room for sweaters, leggings, and boots. So what’s a girl to do when it’s a balmy 85 degrees in October? Pair her new favorite flannel with a leather mini and some open-toed pumps.
Straight from the Moschino Fall 2013 Runway, plaid is back in a big way. I’m talking Madonna at the Met Gala punk-plaid. Sure she looked slightly crazy, but she was right on trend. I opted out of the chain and mesh adornments in favor of leather, for a look that is a bit more wearable.
As I spotlighted in a recent Friday Five, tartan or plaid has been all over the streets or New York, Paris and Milan Fashion Weeks. But calling plaid a trend is like calling leopard or leather a trend; they’re staples that take a different form each season. Last fall we loved gingham, but this fall it’s all about bringing out your inner Scotsman.
While I picked this plaid top up at a Forever 21, it’s typically difficult for me to find a slouchy enough button down in the women’s department. Don’t rule out perusing the men’s section; the masculine patterns and longer lengths are right on trend.
This faux leather skirt is also from Forever 21. I would recommend going up a size in this so that the mesh panel isn’t showing off your tush. I’m planning on pairing this skirt with tights as it gets chillier outside for some extra coverage.
I’m also debuting my 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target bag. As one of those girls who carries her whole life in her purse (calling all thieves!!), this is the perfect medium size bag without looking too bulky.
These shoes are another Lulu’s steal… Only $22! And you get $5 off if you sign up for their emails. I’m already eyeing this pair in red. It’s a tough deal to turn down!
So put an early nineties spin on the lumberjack look and break out your plaid for fall!
