Colorful Sequins for New Year’s Eve

Dress: Red Dress Boutique (Under $50!) | Heels: DSW | Earrings: H&M (In Stores, Similar HERE) | Bangles: Etsy

With Christmas less than two weeks away, it is about time to start thinking about New Year’s Eve. Crazy, right?! And while we typically have a more low key party with family and friends, I still like to jazz up my look with sequins. Lucky for me and my fellow color lovers, the bright stripe trend has carried over into the holiday season and there are so many gorgeous options out there for every price point. I went with this sequined mini dress because the pattern is perfect and the bows on the shoulder are the most adorable cherry on top! The $49 price tag makes it basically irresistible! But no matter what your budget is, I have rounded up New Year’s Eve looks at every price point and you can scroll through to shop them all.

We’ve hit Day 5 of snow on the ground in South Carolina, which is seriously hard to believe. We typically get one snow day in late January and it melts by the next day, but Winter Storm Diego has some serious staying power! Jeremy and I lost cable and internet for a day, but luckily, kept power throughout the storm. And while it was (obviously) chilly enough outside for snow and freezing rain, it wasn’t windy or uncomfortable and we spent a ton of time outside enjoying how pretty it was. So I wanted to round up my recent looks to share for a little bit of holiday inspiration. Almost everything I’m wearing is under $50!

Best of 2018 Eyeshadow Palettes

How many eyeshadow palettes is too many? The limit does not exist. 2018 was a record-breaking year for cosmetics companies. There were an insane amount of launches; so much so that it was difficult to keep up and impossible to try them all. Which is exciting and overwhelming all rolled into one for makeup lovers. Even drugstore companies significantly upped their game, many of their products surpassing prestige brands.

2018 was also the year that I fell in love with makeup. I had always enjoyed getting dolled up, but typically stuck to daytime and a nighttime staple looks. Recently though, I have begun experimenting with my looks, trying new products, and honing my skills (if you will). As influencers, we’re blessed to receive products in PR to try and additionally I scour stores and the internet to save y’all time and money.

I hope to take this passion one step further in 2019 by beginning a YouTube channel and sharing tutorials, favorites, reviews, and more! But until I muster the courage, I had to share my favorite, most-used, worth-every-penny palettes of 2018!

Huda Beauty The New Nude Palette ($65)

Let’s start with the priciest palette of the bunch. I’d been on the hunt for the perfect pinky nude palette that doesn’t have just warm tones and this is it. If you are a lover of blush-toned looks, Huda formulated your dream shades! What’s unique about this this palette is that it features a cream concealer base to prime your eyes or to cut your crease, plus 10 highly-pigmented matte shades, four shimmering pearl reflective shades, two glitters, and a pressed pearl. These shimmers are so unique; the pressed pearl formulation is like nothing I’ve seen before and worth the hefty price tag.

BH Cosmetics Zodiac Palette ($24)

I had heard amazing things about this BH Cosmetics’ Zodiac for months, but the layout of the palette always had me on the fence for some reason. I honestly have no idea why because in person, it’s seriously stunning! So when Ulta marked it down 40% for Cyber Monday, I pulled the trigger. And thank goodness I did! The mattes are smooth and versatile featuring both warm and cool tone shades, but the real stars are the SHIMMERS. They are like butter. I don’t know what BH Cosmetics did, but they were able to achieve the brightest and most pigmented shimmers I have found in both prestige or drugstore cosmetics brands. (Scroll down to see an arm full of shimmer swatches) I am currently trying to hold myself back from scooping up the new Zodiac Palette Love Signs… because c’mon, I only have two eyelids, but those warm tones are calling my name!

P.S. This is the palette I used to achieve the red sweater look above! I simply blended the soft brown shade into the outer V and crease and then applied the center shimmer all over the lid!

Makeup Revolution Extra Spice Palette ($15)

This is the least expensive palette of the list, but had every shade I was missing from my arsenal. I was in the market for colorful shades to do bolder looks; nothing crazy, just some reds, yellows, purples, and deep greens. I am such a fan of rich, jewel-toned looks no matter the season and that is what Extra Spice is all about. If you are a lover of warm shades and can’t get enough of the Fall color scheme, I guarantee this will be a favorite. The only drawback is that some of the shimmers aren’t as blinding as I would like, but this can be counteracted with some Mac Fix+ or NYX’s glitter glue.

P.S. This is the palette I used to achieve the look above. I laid yellow in the inner corner, blended into orange, then into red and deep plum. I even added a bit of forest green to deepen the outer corners.

Laura Lee Los Angeles Nudie Patootie Palette ($45)

If you are looking for the PERFECT every day palette, THIS. IS. IT. The colors are so pigmented and blendable, the fallout is next to nothing, and the shimmers are stunning (hello, Jaybird!) It’s quickly become the only palette I travel with because of how easy it is to achieve so many different wearable looks. If I haven’t sold you enough yet, the pan sizes are huge. If you purchase one palette on this list, make it this one. It’s my favorite and I can’t rave enough about it!

Morphe’s Jaclyn Hill Palette ($38)

Now this didn’t launch in 2018, but I purchased it this year and it’s quickly become a ride-or-die, so of course I had to mention it. Jaclyn Hill spent two years formulating the highest quality shades with Morphe and it really shows. As a long-time lover of Morphe, I can honestly see a huge difference in the quality of these shades compared to their typical ones. The 35 shades include mattes, shimmers, satins, foils, and glitter and all are beautifully pigmented and blendable. The large size may seem inconvenient but for if you’re someone who loves makeup, it’s great to have everything you need for endless looks in one palette. Plus, the $38 price tag is tough to beat.
