Happy New Year, loves! And hellooo 2018. 2017 really was a record year – I got married, traveled to the Mediterranean, quit my job in NASCAR to take this blog full time, moved to South Carolina, watched Jeremy win his first NASCAR race, attended my first RewardStyle conference and made besties for life.
I want to thank y’all from the bottom of my heart for continuing to follow along here. I love getting the opportunity to chat and connect personally with you and always work my hardest to bring you the best content I can. So continuing with that theme, I wanted to round up my most popular clothes, beauty products, blogging tips, and travel destinations of 2017.
Best of Fashion
I have had a blast experimenting with fashion this year. If you know me, you know I love southern, feminine pieces and it seems like y’all do, too! RewardStyle was kind enough to round up our top selling Instagram posts, so I thought I’d share them with you. Some of them are still in stock!
TopShop Striped Cardigan
This little stinker sold out in record time when the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale went live for Early Access. Luckily, it’s popularity inspired other retailers to replicate it so y’all can have the look for less. HERE is an identical striped cardigan. It’s currently 30% off with code JOY30.
Zella Live-In Leggings / Patagonia Los Gatos Vest
Nothing is better than adorable activewear. Thanks to the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, I discovered my new favorite legging brand, Zella. Unfortunately, these particular leggings are sold out, but check out Zella’s line HERE. They are SO GOOD. As for this Patagonia Los Gatos Vest, it is in stock in four colors. Be sure to size up one full size – it runs small. I’m wearing a size medium.
Vince Camuto Fileano Split Shaft Bootie
These super popular booties were a must-have for Fall. They’re surprisingly flattering! I honestly think they make your legs look thinner. I didn’t have any gray booties, so I purchased these pretties in the greystone suede color. They are still in stock and on sale HERE.
Socialite Lace Overlay Maxi Romper
This show stopper was one of my favorite looks from the RewardStyle conference. Embarrassingly enough, at least three of us bloggers wore it throughout the weekend. The best news is that they have brought it back in EIGHT stunning colors! I am wearing a size small and you can shop it HERE.
Instant Panache Plaid Poncho
I literally die for this cape, y’all! Whenever I wear it, I feel like Little Red Riding Hood in the best possible way. I was so glad you guys felt the same about it and was so glad that Red Dress Boutique continued to restock it each time it sold out. It’s currently backordered, but I found an identical version HERE.
BEST OF BLOGGING TIPS
I love hearing from y’all expressing your interest in starting fashion blogs of your own. I try to encourage everyone to take the leap – blogging has brought so much joy to my life and I know that if you are passionate about it, it will do the same for you. My favorite posts to write are ones that share blogging tips, encouragement, frustrations, and just REAL TALK about the blogosphere. So here is a look back on some of my favorite blogging tips from 2017.
Fashion Blogger Misconceptions
This post was fun! After four years of blogging, I have heard it all – blogging is an easy way to make money, we’re all in competition with one another, high follower count means $$$, etc. I broke down eight common misconceptions about fashion blogging and have to overcome them. This post is a behind-the-scenes look of what a day in the life of a blogger is really about and features tons of tips and information for getting started.
Five Ways to Improve Your Instagram Stories
Thanks to Instagram’s new algorithm (more on that below), Instagram Stories have become increasingly important. You might be surprised to know that your followers have a higher likelihood of seeing your stories than your posts these days. So if you’re ready to pimp your Instagram Stories and make them a must-see for your followers, check out this post.
Instagram’s Algorithm & Questionable Social Media Practices
This is easily the most controversial post I have ever published on Cort In Session. As someone who has always grown my blog and social sites honestly and never participated in any questionable social media practices, it is beyond frustrating to see what other bloggers are doing in response to Instagram’s algorithm update. In this post, I break down how to grow your blog the old fashioned way and how to spot the cheaters.
Best of Travel
I had the opportunity to visit some amazing places in 2017 – Greece and Italy for our honeymoon, Charleston for my bachelorette and a blogger bestie trip, Louisville with Go To Louisville, Washington, D.C. (x3) to see friends, Orlando for Halloween Horror Nights, the list goes on and on. But there were certainly some standouts that I wanted to share again!
Jeremy and I stepped off of our cruise ship and into a postcard. Santorini has so much to see that you need more than a day, but we were able to see highlights like Oia, Kamari Beach, and Fira and were blown away. Read all about how we spent our time in Santorini HERE.
Quite possibly my favorite city in the country, I visited this gem twice in 2017 – once for my bachelorette party and again with Toyota for a blogger bestie roadtrip. From the food, to the beaches, to the gorgeous historic district, Charleston is a must-see destination.
Ready for a bold statement? Of all the places I have visited, Mykonos is my favorite. Jeremy and I both agreed that if we had the opportunity to return one place from our honeymoon, this would be it. I love that the island is small enough that you can see a good chunk of it in one day by renting an ATV, but still large enough that many of the beaches are quite different. Read all about the best Mykonos has to offer HERE.
Postiano was everything I dreamed it would be and more. Jeremy and I had only one day to explore the Amalfi Coast, so we hired Francesco Marrapese (highly recommended) to take us on a private tour from Naples to Positano, Amalfi, and Ravello. Read all about our trip HERE.
Best of Beauty
The number one question I got in 2017 was regarding which makeup products I use. I’ve shared before that I have psoriasis which really dries out my skin, so this year was all about experimenting with hydrating skincare and makeup until I finally achieved that dewy, luminous glow.
One of the best parts of blogging is getting the opportunity to try new products, so I wanted to share my favorites below. I snapped the picture above with no editing to show y’all what these look like on the skin. I go more in depth about these products HERE.
Favorite Primer: BECCA Backlight Priming Filter
Favorite Foundation: Chanel CC Cream
Favorite Contour Palette: Smashbox Step-By-Step Contour Kit
Favorite Contour Brush: Becca’s The One Perfecting Brush
Favorite Blush: Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in Seduce
Favorite Setting Spray: Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Spray
Favorite Eyeshadow Brush: IT Cosmetics Superhero Brush
Thanks so much for taking this little trip down memory lane with me. I have had so much fun chatting about blogging, beauty, and fashion with y’all this year and can’t wait to share more in 2018! xoxo
